Authority and Link Building

Anyone can sell you a thousand links.

Most of them will do nothing. Some will actively damage your rankings. The difference between the two is not something you can see on an invoice, which is exactly why this part of the industry has the reputation it does.

What links actually do

A link from another website is a vote. Search engines have always used them to judge which sites are worth trusting, and that has not changed. What has changed is how good they have become at telling a real vote from a bought one.

Ten links from businesses that genuinely reference you will outperform a thousand from sites nobody reads.

This is the part most link packages get wrong. They optimise for a number you can count, because a number is easy to sell. Search engines stopped counting and started assessing years ago.

Volume based link building compared with relevance based A high volume approach produces many links from unrelated low quality sites, carrying little value and some risk. A relevance based approach produces fewer links from genuinely related sites, carrying substantially more value and no risk. SOLD BY VOLUME 1,000 links from anywhere Almost none from sites your buyers have ever visited. Risk Penalties, wasted budget BUILT ON RELEVANCE 20 links from your industry From publications, associations and businesses in your field. Result Durable authority, referral traffic The bar is simple: would this link exist if search engines did not?
Relevance and genuine editorial interest are what carry weight. Volume without either is at best wasted spend, and at worst a liability you inherit.

What we will not do

Worth stating plainly, because a lot of what gets sold as link building falls into these categories.

No link farms, private networks, or bulk purchases

These leave a permanent footprint on your site. Cleaning up after them is slower and more expensive than never doing it, and we have been called in to do exactly that more than once.

How we earn links instead

Make something worth citing

Original data, useful tools, or genuinely better answers to questions your industry keeps asking. People link to things that help them.

Linkable asset development and topic research.

Reach the people who write about your field

Journalists, industry publications, associations and newsletters. A relevant mention is worth more than a hundred directory listings.

Targeted outreach with tracked response rates.

Fix what is already pointing at you

Most sites have broken links, unlinked brand mentions, and old pages holding authority that goes nowhere useful.

Backlink audit, reclamation and redirect mapping.

Clean up what you inherited

If a previous agency bought links, we find them and deal with them before they cost you.

Toxic link identification and disavow where warranted.

How an engagement runs

  1. We audit what you already haveIncluding anything a previous agency built. Sometimes the first job is removal rather than acquisition.Full backlink profile review with risk assessment.
  2. We find where your competitors are getting mentionedWhich publications, directories and industry sites link to them and not to you.Competitor link gap analysis.
  3. We build something worth linking toBecause outreach without a reason to link is just email nobody answers.Linkable asset production.
  4. We do the outreach properlyPersonal, relevant, and to people who actually cover your field. Slower than buying, and it lasts.Manual outreach with reporting on placements.
  5. We report what was earned and what it didEvery link, where it came from, and what happened to your visibility.Placement reporting tied to ranking movement.

Questions we get asked

How many links will we get per month?

We do not sell a monthly quota, because the honest answer varies enormously by industry and by what we have to work with. A number promised in advance is a number someone intends to hit by buying, which is the thing you are paying us to avoid. We agree targets after the audit, when we know what is realistic.

Isn’t buying links faster?

Faster to acquire, yes. But bought links tend to come from sites that exist only to sell links, which search engines are increasingly good at identifying. The risk is not just that it stops working, it is that the footprint stays on your profile and has to be cleaned up later.

What if a previous agency bought links for us?

It happens often, and it is fixable. We identify what was built, assess what is actually harmful rather than merely useless, and deal with it. Not every low quality link needs action, and over-disavowing causes its own problems.

How long before links affect our rankings?

Individual links can move things within weeks, though the effect is usually gradual and cumulative rather than sudden. Authority builds over months. Anyone promising a specific ranking by a specific date is guessing.

Do links still matter with AI search?

Yes, and arguably more. AI answer engines lean heavily on whether a source appears credible and is referenced elsewhere. Being cited by respected sites in your field is one of the clearer signals that you are worth quoting.

Find out what your link profile actually looks like.

We will review what you have, flag anything risky, and show you where your competitors are getting mentioned that you are not. No pitch deck.
